Don’t Believe the Lies

The enemy is crafty. Satan is willing to do anything that it takes to take you away from your relationship with Jesus and feeling His love. This week there have been several instances that have come to my attention where people are struggling with self-harm, eating disorders,  and suicide. It breaks my heart to see people who are going through these things. I know this is a cliche, but it is so true that we live in a lost and lonely world. I keep seeing and hearing about all of these people who are in despair and suffer because the devil has lied to them to the point where they even want to hurt themselves. Eating disorders, depression, and the like are medical conditions and should be treated as such, but we need to combat the lies. I ask that if you are struggling, don’t do it alone. The devil has told these people that they are not good enough the way that they are, that they are not beautiful, that no one loves them, that no one would care if they were not here, and many other horrendous things that unfortunately they feel about themselves that are simply not true. I am writing this today to say, Christ put us in the world to reveal to these people that these feelings are not truth, but rather lies that the enemy is trying to use to keep these people from walking with Jesus. I want to be real for a moment, though, most people reading this are not trained psychologists or counselors, so I am not saying that you should take the place of one. What I am saying is that we should encourage people who go through these sorts of things to seek out professionals who know strategies of helping them get back on their feet. We should also be loving, not judgmental, of those who feel this way and we should give them a sincere kind word or an open ear to listen to them. Christ can work through us to show these people that they are loved, they are valuable, and that they are worth fighting for. These things don’t happen over night, which is why we need to be patient and just love these people. Every life is valuable and God wills us all to see that.

For anyone reading this today who struggles with these kinds of problems, I want to let you know that there is not a problem too big for God to handle. He is willing and He is able. He loves you more than you can ever comprehend and He also wants you to know that you are worth everything to Him. You are wonderful, you are beautiful, you are awesome, you are a life worth living, you are a son or a daughter of the One True King and you deserve to be treated and respected as such.

Some of you may be struggling with guilt. God is a merciful and forgiving God and He will always take you back if you have done something that you are sorry for. His mercies are new every morning and He wants nothing more than for you to come to Him. God is always by our side fighting for us, but Satan will try to steer your heart away from God in any possible way that he can. God desires for us to be with Him, don’t let the devil’s lies stand in your way. God loves you and He wants to face this problem head on with you. I ask that if you are struggling, don’t do it alone. Try to seek out help from a trusted loved one and a professional whose goal it is is to see you feeling better. God is with you and He is always available to help, comfort, listen, love you, and carry you when you can walk no more. You were given life for a reason and I know that there is hope for you and for everyone that God has created.

Heavenly Father, You created mankind in Your image and likeness. Please help us all to see that and to show others this as well. You are love itself and we pray that we can show people Your love through our actions and our words. Lord, transform all hearts and bring healing and peace to those hearts that are breaking and in desperation. We know that You make all things new Lord and that You are capable of taking the sadness and brokenness in our world and turning it into something beautiful, such as a nation of people who shine in Your love and give You constant glory. Draw near to our hearts and strengthen them, and help us to live for You and to do Your will. We ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
